What do Ziploc bags, wet wipes and a library card have in common?
They're all on the list of school supplies for DISD elementary schools in 2009-10.
The list looks pretty conventional as school supplies go. Kids need crayons, glue, safety scissors and, of course, No. 2 pencils. But about those Ziploc bags — can someone out there explain why, in each grade, the boys must have quart-sized bags while the girls need gallon-sized ones?
Depending on the grade, the total cost will set families back an estimated to $33.95 (pre-K) to $69.45 (5th grade). But one item on every list is free: a Dallas public library card. Very cool

6/20/2009 - "Everything Backpack Fundraiser"
7 Seasons http://www.helpinghandsorg.webs.com/ is currently running a fundraiser to ensure that our students attending the Dallas Independent School District can go to school this year ready for their education ahead of them. Last year over 24,000 students in our Dallas and surrounding communities started school last year with a Spiral Notebook and Ink Pen leaving students with low self-esteems from not being able to be fully prepared for school. It means alot to our commuity to keep our students focused on their education. 7 Seasons on August 1 2009 will be gifting our community members in a public event broadcasted live from the two local radio stations K-104 & 97.9 The Beat. 7 Seasons needs the support to help achieve our goal of raising a total of $64,300.00 to purchase 10,000 backpacks and school supplies for students in our lower communities who need your help.
